Head of the Palestinian Olympic Committee, Jibril Rajoub, said Wednesday he hoped the Paris Olympic Games would bring more attention to the war in Gaza and the "Israeli occupation of the West Bank," Times of Israel reported last week. So far the country is set to participate in the Games with one athlete confirmed in taekwondo while other hopefuls are training to meet the International Olympic Committee standards to have priority for wildcards. Rajoub said in a press conference earlier this month that Palestine will have a minimum of 6-8 (athletes), three of which are likely to come from Gaza. 

With their hands painted red in support of Palestine, the protesters repeated a demonstration from March to persuade IOC officials to ban Israel from the Games. The event was organised by several groups. Among them was the European Muslim Forum.

Despite security threats and concerns over provocations, Israel is working to ensure that the athletes competing at the games in Paris can keep their focus entirely on sport, The Times of Israel reported last week.

The organising committee of the Global Summit for Palestine, initiated by the European Muslim Forum (EMF), has called for the resignation of Thomas Bach and accused the IOC of 'double standards'. Nkosi Mandela, a member of the committee, flew in from South Africa to personally deliver a letter to the members of the IOC in which she issued an ultimatum: "Expel Israel or face a boycott".

FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on Friday that the organisation will seek independent legal guidance regarding the Palestinian Football Association's call to suspend its Israeli counterpart over recent events in Gaza.

No to Istanbul means no to Paris 2024 for the five athletes from the national team who opted out of the tournament. After the suspension of commercial relations by Turkey, the Israeli Security Agency barred its wrestling delegation from competing and shut down their hopes of Olympic participation.

Several hundred pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered on Tuesday, demanding restrictions on Israel's involvement in the Paris 2024 Summer Games in the French capital, insisting they should be treated like Russia and compete under a neutral flag.

French President Macron warned last Thursday of the danger of Russian disinformation during the Paris Olympics, saying his country was ready for the challenge. "I don't doubt" that the Games will be targeted by Russia, "including in the field of information," Macron said at the inauguration of the Aquatic Centre, the largest sports facility built for next summer's Olympics.

The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) has asked FIFA to sanction Israeli football teams over the conflict in Gaza, which began on 7th October 2023 when Hamas launched a surprise attack on southern Israel.
