Australian skateboarder Keefer Wilson led 16 competitors through to the semi-finals in Men’s Park, followed by Jagger Eaton (USA) and Pedro Quintas (BRA).

The 17-year-old laid down 84.69 marker of intent in heat three and his score proved irretrievable as the final heat of skaters led by world champion Gavin Bottger took the bowl.

"I was really not expecting that," Wilson said afterwards. "I'm super stoked to be in this position right now. "I love being out here, just to be at these competitions is an amazing feeling. I couldn’t wish for more than to be with my team and my friends."

Fellow Aussies reigning Olympic champion Keegan Palmer and Kieran Woolley punched in their semi-final tickets along with the Nyora native.

Akama Liz took first place in Women’s Street prelims, the Japanese star topped qualifying with a commanding 87.14 opening run score. 

"Finishing top is great but it will make me nervous as I will run at the end in the semi-finals. I’m nervous already! But I will do my best," Akama said.

World champion Oda Yumeka failed to put down a clean run and was cut, but fellow compatriots Nakayama Funa, Nishiya Momiji, Yoshizawa Coco and Ito Miyu made it to the semi-finals.

Australia’s Chloe Covell and Brazil’s Rayssa Leal also advanced, along with Cui Chenxi, 14, leading the way for the People's Republic of China, qualifying in fifth.

The semi-finals will play out on Saturday with the finals scheduled for Sunday.
