Georgian Rafting Federation President Davit Katsarava, a member of the Anti-Occupation Movement, was arrested and severely beaten at the anti-Russian law rally.

Mr Katsarava, a highly regarded individual in the rafting community, endured severe violence while being detained at a protest, according to reports. This occurrence, set against the backdrop of the recent protests in Georgia, is profoundly troubling and utterly intolerable.

The 42-year-old, renowned for his activism, was arrested and subjected to severe beatings, resulting in serious injuries such as a broken jaw and significant facial trauma. These injuries necessitated immediate medical attention, and he is presently undergoing surgery at Ingorokva clinic in the country's capital, Tbilisi.

Mrs Sofo Khachapuridze, his wife, has provided distressing accounts of the severity of his injuries, highlighting deliberate and targeted strikes to his head by multiple assailants.

“He is badly beaten about the head, his jaw is broken," she said. "His face and head are actually deformed, he was hit on the head very purposefully by many people."

"The WRF stands in solidarity with Mr Katsarava and his family during this difficult time," a statement read. "We urge the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice swiftly.

"Furthermore, we call for the protection of the fundamental rights and freedoms of all individuals, including the right to peaceful protest, without fear of violence or persecution.

"Our thoughts are with Mr Katsarava for a swift and full recovery, and we reaffirm our commitment to upholding the principles of justice, human rights, and dignity for all."
